Porto San Paolo – Tavolara

Several dozen swimmers meet every year in Porto San Paolo to participate in a swimming competition that takes place over a distance of about 5km between the coast and the island of Tavolara.

These are two free swimming competitions that take place on different days. The first leg starts from Porto San Paolo and ends on the island of Tavolara. The return leg starts on the island and ends on the beach of Porto Taverna.

Part of the Sardinia open water swimming circuit, this event is sponsored by the marine protected area of Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo and the Municipality of Loiri Porto San Paolo. Many consortium members of the Tavolara Archipelago also collaborate in the initiative, including Mare Azzurro and Tavolara ferries and trips.

The competitions always take place in the morning and in the different editions they have reached over two hundred swimmers.
The participants in this exceptional event come from various Italian and foreign cities, where they prepare for an exciting challenge, which requires great tenacity and endurance.

The race is followed by numerous boats in the stretch of sea between the coast and the island, including those of the security and first aid officers.

Many are waiting for these exceptional sportsmen upon their arrival, ready to congratulate them on their achievement and celebrate the top finishers.

From this moment a chapter opens that is part of the most authentic Sardinian hospitality: the delicacies that accompany any meeting in Sardinia seem to appear out of nowhere. Everyone brings great food, desserts, wine and beer to celebrate this day in good company and leave an indelible memory in those who have lived it.
